The softball division of the Upper Makefield Youth Baseball and Softball League fields teams at the U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14, and U-18 divisions. Five and six year olds play T-Ball with the boys in the baseball league. There are approximately 130 girls that participate in softball (not including T-ball players) each season.
At the U-8 level, the league generally has three teams. At the U-10, U-12, and U-14 levels, the league usually fields two teams. Occasionally, there are three teams at one of these levels when enrollment for a division reaches 36 or more players.
League Affiliations
At the U-8 and U-10 levels, the league joins with teams from surrounding areas in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to form leagues. These leagues are at an instructional level (U-8) and entry level to kid pitch (U-10). The U-8 level typically does not include formal tournaments or championships. The U-10 level participates in an end of the year tournament. The U-10 does utilize in house umpires, usually comprised of girls from the older levels. The rules are developed by the league for each level.
At the U-12, U-14, and U-18 levels, the teams participate in the Inter-Township League, which includes Upper Makefield, New Hope, Newtown, Southampton and Warminster. At these levels, we utilize ASSA rules with specific modifications for each level. These levels utilize umpires as well as mid-season and end-of-season tournaments. An end-of-season tournament determines the league champion at each level.
The league does not field any travel teams, but does sometimes field teams for tournaments at the U-12, U-14, and U-18 levels.
Home games are played at the two softball fields at Lookout Park off River Road.
