Opening Ceremony & Skill Competition

The Opening Ceremony will take place Friday July 22 at 5:00PM.  Players from all teams should be just outside George’s Field at 4:45 near the left field shed (foul pole area), ready for the team-by-team, player parade onto the perimeter arc of the George’s Field infield (including first and third base lines). Teams will be announced alphabetically. All players and coaches must be present, in full uniform. This will be followed by Opening Ceremonies with First Pitch.

There will be a Skills Competition for all teams on George’s Field, Friday night, July 22, 2011 at approximately 6pm. Each team will split into groups of players, comprised per coaches’ decision, and each player will compete in one of four events: Home Run Derby (2 players per team, two rounds - the top 5 advance to the second round finals), Speed Around the Bases (4 players), ‘Round the Horn (4 players), and the Golden Gun Throw Accuracy (remaining players, to ensure all participate).

Batting cages will be available for use by Home Run Derby participants-only (we ask that each player be kept to ~25 pitches each to ensure all players get warm-up time).

The format will follow that which takes place at the Ripken World Series. Coaches and players can preview the format here.

Please complete the attached player sign-up sheet (please return to me by 7/19). The evening will end with the awarding of trophies to 1st and 2nd place individuals for the Accuracy and Home Run Derby events. Team trophies for the 1st place finishers in the Speed and Round the Horn events will also be awarded.
