UMYBL Gives Back to Area Communities

UMYBL Gives the Gift of Baseball to Inner City Philadelphia Youth Groups and Beyond

Thanks, so much,  to the UMYBL and Upper Makfield community for its tremendous giving - giving the joys and life lessons of baseball and softball to others in our region...and the world.

Knowing that each year, many of the children of the Upper Makefield Community are blessed to receive new equipment as gifts, outgrow a bat or glove, or buy their own new helmet for fun, and that, often times, their "old" equipment kicks around, cluttering the garage, left dusty, unwanted, and unused.

So, On Opening Day - as well as April 17 and 24, during in-house games, 9AM-3PM - UMYBL gathered good (or better) condition used equipment to donate to inner city youth baseball and softball organizations. Of course, donations of new equipment were more than welcome.

Equipment collection bins were located at all snack sheds .

The results were tremendous. And Pitch In For Baseball (the leading such global program through we which we funneled our collected equipment) was truly overwhelmed by the generosity of our baseball community.
>
> The final tally on Spring, 2010 collections was as follows:
>
> 102 Bats
> 100 Gloves
> 140 Pairs of pants
> 8 Sets of Catchers Equipment
> 77 Helmets
> 70 (Approximate) pairs of cleats-lost count with last minute contributions
> 7 Bat bags
> 2 Equipment bags
> $50 Cash/checks
>
> Several bags of baseballs and softballs.
>
> Miscellaneous other items such as batting gloves, belts, 2 sets of 12 t-shirts, socks, etc. etc.
>
> Thank you to all of the families who donated equipment, clothing and/or money.

Please look through your closets and garage, and keep this in mind at the end of this season, this summer, and this winter. Truly, one child's "trash" can become another child's treasure - and we will collect again next year.

And UMYBL will be once again be working with "Pitch in for Baseball" to make childrens' baseball dreams come true. Please email Maria Desautelle at wdesaute@comcast.net with any related questions or suggestions.
